The Department of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Gharyan was established by a decision of the College Council in its meeting on July 4, 2017. The College Council referred the decision to the University Council to issue a resolution establishing the Department of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medicine, which in turn issued Resolution No. (4) for the year 2019, dated January 30, 2019, establishing the Department of Medical Education at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Gharyan. It is one of the few scientific departments that have been added to medical Faculties in Libyan universities.

The department is dedicated to all aspects of medical education at the undergraduate level and strives hard to achieve further dedication and contribution towards the development of medical education. The Department of Medical Education is one of the main pillars that contribute to the construction and development of medical competencies among its students. This department reflects the spirit of scientific commitment and the future vision of the Faculty in qualifying and training qualified medical personnel who meet the needs of the community and contribute to the provision of healthcare services at the highest level.

Description


The department aims to provide an exceptional educational environment based on modern methods and innovative techniques in medical education at the undergraduate level, to achieve academic excellence for students and effectively prepare them for the practice of medicine with efficiency and safety.

The curriculum in the Department of Medical Education is based on an effective balance between scientific theories and practical application, where students learn how to interact with clinical cases and analyze medical challenges comprehensively. Students are also encouraged to actively participate in research and scientific activities to develop their research and analytical capabilities.

Finally, we are committed to providing a safe and stimulating environment to develop the abilities and skills of students, intending to shape future leaders in the field of medicine and improve the quality of healthcare services in our society.

Mission


The Department of Medical Education at the Faculty is committed to developing curricula, courses, teaching and learning methods, and student assessment at the College, in line with national and international standards. It also aims to enhance the skills of faculty members and teaching assistants in the field of medical education.

Tasks of the Department of Medical Education:

1.    Developing the curriculum of the medical college and conducting internal and international benchmarking to enhance the quality of medical education locally and globally.

2.    Implementing a specific and programmed vision aimed at providing support and advice in the field of medical education to faculty members, college students, and the academic accreditation process.

3.    Raising awareness and enhancing the culture of faculty members regarding the requirements of medical education based on the latest national and international standards of practice.

4.    Focusing on continuous educational processes and evaluating them to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the medical college.

5.    Organizing training programs, workshops, seminars, and conferences aimed at developing the capabilities of faculty members and enhancing their teaching and assessment skills.

6.    Providing support to faculty members in designing and conducting educational research, analyzing data, and publishing results in relevant scientific journals.

7.    Evaluating educational programs, courses, curricula, and ensuring their compliance with national and international standards.

8.    Promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional development among faculty members and teaching assistants, and providing support and opportunities for professional growth.

9.    Coordinating and organizing college examinations, evaluating students' performance, and providing feedback to them.
